Deezer says roughly 75,000 fully AI-generated tracks now land on its platform every day — about 44% of daily uploads, or more than 2 million a month. That is not just a content problem. It is an ingestion problem, a ranking problem, and increasingly a product architecture problem.
For streaming platforms, the shift is operationally significant. When nearly half of new uploads are machine-generated, the question is no longer whether AI music exists in the catalog. It is how quickly a service can identify it, label it, and route it through policy rules without degrading discovery for legitimate artists or adding friction to the upload path. Deezer’s own numbers show how quickly the composition of incoming content has changed: the company said the daily volume of fully AI-generated uploads has risen from roughly 10,000 a day a year ago to about 75,000 now.
At the center of Deezer’s response is a patented AI-detection tool that the company says can identify music generated by models including Suno and Udio. Deezer has also said it plans to license the detector to other players in the industry, which makes the system more than an internal moderation layer. It starts to look like infrastructure: a specialized classification service wrapped into the platform’s governance stack and potentially sold as a product.
That matters because the mechanics of detection now directly affect what users hear. Deezer says flagged AI-generated tracks are removed from recommendations. In practice, that means the classifier is not only tagging content for metadata or compliance; it is changing the exposure model. A track that makes it into upload storage but is excluded from recommendation surfaces is effectively being treated as second-class inventory, with lower distribution potential even before any listener behavior is considered.
Deezer has also pointed to the quality of engagement around these tracks. Of the streams AI-generated songs do receive on the platform, the company says 85% come from bots. That detail is important for product teams because it ties detection to another control plane: fraud and traffic integrity. If a large share of consumption is automated, then recommendation systems, royalty accounting, and performance analytics all become harder to trust. The platform is not merely filtering content; it is defending its measurement stack.
The strategic implication is that detection is becoming a moat. A platform that can reliably classify AI-generated audio at upload time can enforce policy faster, protect recommendation quality, and preserve some confidence in engagement metrics. If that same capability can be licensed, it may also create a new revenue line or at least a standards-setting position inside the wider music ecosystem. In that scenario, ownership of the detector becomes as consequential as ownership of the catalog.
There is also a broader product-roadmap question hiding underneath the numbers. Once AI-generated uploads are arriving at this scale, moderation can no longer be an afterthought bolted onto ingestion. It has to sit in the upload pipeline itself, with model coverage, confidence thresholds, exception handling, appeals, and metadata policy treated as first-class features. The tighter the system becomes, the more it will shape product decisions around creator onboarding, search ranking, recommendation eligibility, and how much explanatory context a platform owes to artists and listeners.
That is where the governance risk enters. Detection systems are only as good as their coverage, and AI music generation is moving fast enough that model-to-model gaps are inevitable. False negatives would allow synthetic content to bypass policy. False positives could suppress legitimate work or mislabel human-made tracks. Either failure mode can erode trust if the platform cannot explain its decisions or keep pace with new generators.
The arms race is likely to continue because the underlying incentives are not aligned. Generative models get better at producing plausible audio, while platforms get more pressure to keep catalogs organized, recommendations relevant, and metrics clean. The result is a technical contest over classification, labeling, and enforcement — one that may matter as much to streaming strategy as the music itself.
For product and tooling teams, the next signals to watch are straightforward: whether more platforms adopt upload-time detection, whether Deezer’s licensing approach turns into a broader commercial market for AI-music classifiers, and whether industry policy starts to converge on shared metadata and labeling standards. Deezer’s numbers suggest the issue is already inside the core platform stack. The question now is which companies build the best control systems around it — and which ones end up reacting to uploads after the fact.
