Financial services has become one of the clearest stress tests for agentic AI. The appeal is obvious: systems that can reason over fresh information, orchestrate workflows, and take bounded actions could compress work that now spans traders, analysts, operations teams, and compliance review. But the industry’s first real constraint is not model quality. It is whether the firm has built a data foundation that an agent can trust, query quickly, and use under audit.

In other words, the institution should prove it can operate one line of business reliably before trying to generalize across several.

  2. Instrument the data path. Measure lineage, latency, retrieval precision, and access compliance.
